Masoor Dal Bharta For Today’s Simple Lunch

Welcome to today's simple lunch! Let's make a delicious Masoor Dal Bharta, a popular Indian dish made with red lentils and spices.

First, soak 1 cup of masoor dal in water for 30 minutes. Then, cook it in a pressure cooker with 2 cups of water for 3 whistles.

In a pan, heat 2 tablespoons of oil and add 1 teaspoon of cumin seeds. Once they splutter, add 1 chopped onion and sauté until golden brown.

Next, add 1 chopped tomato, 1 teaspoon of ginger-garlic paste, and 1 chopped green chili. Cook until the tomatoes are soft and mushy.

Now, add 1 teaspoon of coriander powder, 1/2 teaspoon of turmeric powder, 1/4 teaspoon of red chili powder, and salt to taste. Mix well.

Add the cooked dal to the pan and mix everything together. Let it cook for 5 minutes on medium heat.

Using a potato masher, mash the dal until it becomes a thick and creamy consistency. This is the key to a delicious bharta!

In a separate pan, heat 1 tablespoon of ghee and add 1/2 teaspoon of cumin seeds. Once they splutter, add 1/4 teaspoon of red chili powder and turn off the heat.

Pour this tempering over the dal bharta and mix well. Garnish with chopped coriander leaves and serve hot with rice or roti.
